Persona 4

Persona 4 is another RPG from the guys at Atlus because they love to port games to the states. But the question is, is it any good?

Sony Playstation 2

OVERVIEW

I first heard about persona 4 when it was first released in Japan. I thought it was gonna be another boring RPG that the states would never get, but then a miracle happened and it was. Still not convinced, I went and talk to some people if I should buy it and they all said yes. Later in the week I bought it sat down and started playing. I was then immediately consumed in with the well made story and good dialogue (its more cheesy than good). The main point of Persona is to save people who have been thrown into TVs by a murderer. While fighting monsters and fulfilling social links to make better Personas.

GAMEPLAY

Persona 4 is JRPG dungeon crawler for PS2 by the people at Atlus. Its plays like any other standard JRPG dungeon crawler, where u take turns deciding what u want to do and watching what your enemies do. When not in battles you are walking around the dungeon doing basic dungeon crawler things like opening chests, attacking shadows, and exploring. An interesting feature to the Persona series is well to summon Personas. Personas are kinda like Pokemon in a way where u collect them and then use there powers to fight shadows. Now shadows are the main enemy in the game. Most shadows have a weakness in which you should exploit because some are very hard to beat. If you use a weakness against them they will most likely be downed. Downed is a state where they cant attack you. If u hit them again with the same weakness the they will become dizzy and cannot attack for 2 turns. If u down all the enemies, then you can do an all out attack on them and do massive chaos to them. The only downside to this is that shadows can also down you depending on what your Persona weakness is, and yes they can also dizzy. Another unique feature to Persona is the social link system. The social link system is used to create bonds with people you meet in the real world. you use the social links to create better Personas of that social link. Each social link can be maxed out at 10. Every social link has a very well made story arc to each person. It really makes you feel like your a part of the world. If you upgrade a social link of a party member, they may learn a skill like “Take a Fatal Hit” or “Cure Severe Ailments” which can be used if you (the main character) are in trouble and need help. For girls, if you get there social links high enough you will be able to ask them to be your girl friend which has its perks.

STORY

The story is that you are a city kid moving to a town called Inaba for a year because your mom and dad have business overseas. You meet your uncle Dojima and his daughter Nanako. In the first few days, there are a series of bizarre murders that happen when it is really foggy out and thought a series of events you and your friends realize you are the only people that can solve the mystery. But all in all the story is very well made with some very good twists and turns.

GRAPHICS

For a PS2 game they’re okay, but they could be much better. But you cant really complain because the graphics don’t matter.

OVERALL

Persona 4 is a very well made and very fun RPG.  Its a definite but if you want to pull out your old PS2 again, or if you want to play an extremely fun and addicting RPG.
